pinta's History

illbruck GmbH, the company, was founded in 1952 by Willi and Christiane Illbruck of Leverkusen, Germany. Originally, they manufactured steel die-cutting tools that were used to produce parts made of various materials, one of which being foam. Within 20 years, the company had grown and established subsidiaries in Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, Australia and the USA. Willi Illbruck joined forces with Charles Industries, located in Minneapolis, MN. This is where SONEX was invented in the late 1970's and quickly found a dedicated following, especially as an acoustic control product in the broadcast/audio industry. The popularity of SONEX quickly spread to other interior applications where noise and acoustic control were needed - manufacturing facilities, schools, churches, office areas, public buildings, etc.

In 1987, Michael Illbruck joined the management of illbruck GmbH in Leverkusen and was on the Board of Directors of the company until 2005. Michael Illbruck also established the holding company illbruck elements GmbH in 2004. In September 2005 illbruck elements GmbH acquired the German acoustic business and the US business units. Both companies fit perfectly into the current portfolio of the illbruck elements GmbH. In 2007, the company changed it's name to pinta elements.

pinta GmbH, based in Munich, Germany, consists of the six operating companies pinta filtration, pinta insulation, pinta acoustic (formerly known as illbruck acoustic, inc. and includes the SONEX product line), pinta foamtec (formerly known as illbruck foamtec, inc.), Nieuwburg and pinta. pinta insulation and Nieuwburg produce and install insulating systems for the shipbuilding, aircraft and satellite industries. pinta filtration develops and sells absorption filter systems for various applications in the field of household appliances, for water treatment as well as for filtering air in rooms with an increase gas concentration. System solutions for sound insulations for the architectural and building industry, as well as for sound engineering, are offered by pinta acoustic. pinta foamtec covers the group's business in the area of technical foam plastic processing. Furthermore, the pinta brand focuses the great number of pinta elements' activities in professional high-performance sailing sports.

Throughout pinta's history, sailing has played an integral part. It is not only a sporting challenge for Michael IIlbruck, but also an inspiration for his business activities: " A business works much like a team sport. Different individuals need to share a common vision and goal. When this happens the gears clutch together and everything is set in motion." illbruck is a team player: through his initiative the sailing yacht "illbruck" won the Volvo Ocean Race in 2002 - the most important ocean regatta in the world. The "illbruck" was the first German sailing yacht to win this coveted trophy. Together with his crew, Michael Illbruck thereby carried on the proud tradition of his father Willi Ilbruck.
